FOR THOSE PLAYING IN BROWSER: Controls are (z) to confirm/progress/interact, and arrow keys for movement. There is a chance the audio will sound unpleasant or strange in browser, I'm not sure why that is. In such cases I recommend lowering the volume or muting altogether.

A group of birds investigate a mysterious statue in the middle of the ocean. What will they discover inside?

A short, weird sketch  for the gameboy! Run it on actual gameboy hardware, or an emulator, whatever floats your boat.

Made from November 2020 to January 2021.

Made with GB Studio (Thanks Chris Maltby!), Milkytracker, and Aseprite.

UPDATE: For Public Domain Day 2023, I am ceding The Weeping Statue and its custom assets* to the public domain! The assets are now available for free, as well.  Enjoy!

*I have removed two assets in the download. One is an image made using a font I don't own but had rights to use in this non-commercial project. It just says "The End" on a solid black background so it doesn't feel transformative, either. The other is a font I made heavily based off of the font from the Hamtaro GBC game. These are still in the game itself, but will no longer be included in Assets.zip.

Beautiful game and fable, glad it got the recognition is deserved. Very contemplative and wonderful.

Not really about the game, but where'd you get that blue and red gba shell?  It's Rad!

Thanks! :D I spray-painted a clear shell!

oh noice!  I may have to try that someday!

It's fun! I got the effect by spraying the inside of the shell; since it's clear, it shows through. And I picked out buttons to match the colors I  had. The original manufacture buttons feel a little better in my opinion, but not significantly so. Customization is a lot of fun. :)

I just opnened a lot of pages taking a look at the games to download it without much info. Then I stopped here. "WTF is that? A game about birds?" Since I saw a lot of simple games b4 I didnt give much credit to this.

Then I just keep playing, and playing and it was the only one that got me here eyes wide open in front of the pc. It just got me by surprise BAM.

Dude, this is amazing, congratulations!

this is so good! It’s profound and the graphics are beautiful

I did have trouble telling where to go sometimes. Especially the first screen. I almost quit because I thought the game was broken

Thanks for the feedback! And thanks so much for sticking with it. I think maybe if I make the event trigger bigger it might help? (I'm looking at it in gb studio and I only made it one square big?! What was I thinking ahhhhh)

haha yeah! No wonder I had trouble

another issue was I just didn’t realize I was supposed to go there. I thought the water was just decorative
